Message from the President

Dear Colleagues,

John G. Hunter, President International Society of Surgery ISS/SIC

As you know, the global pandemic has caused us to delay our meeting in Kuala Lumpur for a year. Rather than leaving you, our members, without the opportunity to participate in a global meeting in 2021, the International Society of Surgery (ISS/SIC) has decided to host a Virtual Surgical Week (VSW), to be held from August 30 to September 3, 2021 – and entirely online.

VSW 2021 underscores our commitment to teaching in surgery - both specialized and general surgery – for developed and developing countries. This unique platform allows surgeons to participate in the congress from anywhere in the world with internet access.

I am thrilled to invite you to the Virtual Surgical Week (VSW) 2021, which promises to provide an educational platform for surgeons, surgical trainees, anesthesiologists, medical students, and members of surgical teams from across the globe.

The Virtual Surgical Week's hallmarks are a broad range of outstanding learning opportunities including discussion forums on the most current surgical practices and research developments. Experts from around the world have agreed to lead these presentations and discussions through 50 sessions sprinkled throughout the week.

To assure you that the ‘world’s best' content is delivered, VSW represents a partnership with all the ISS/SIC Integrated, Associated, and Participating Societies:

I urge you to look through this schedule and pick out the sessions that you want to attend, then add them to your calendar. The sessions will be centered on a business day in Europe which means that those of us in the Far East and the Far West (read Portland, Oregon USA!) will be up all hours of the night, but the content will be worth it, and no jet lag for anyone!

Organizing Committee Chair

Dear colleagues and trainees around the world,

On behalf of the Organizing Committee (OC), I would like to take this opportunity to invite you all to the International Society of Surgery (ISS/SIC) Virtual Surgical Week (VSW) 2021, to be held from August 30 to September 3, 2021.

As we are not yet allowed to meet in person and resume the ever so important personal direct interactions, the OC was tasked with planning a totally virtual, but not less stimulating comprehensive program to continue to build on the momentum ISS is creating under the leadership of Dr. John Hunter. Despite the limitations dictated by the virtual platform, time zones, and costs associated with a virtual congress we have put together a truly comprehensive, inclusive, and scientifically stimulating program.

We have included topics that will appeal to the students and residents, military, trauma, and specialty surgeons, anesthesiologists, critical care doctors, and oncologists. All of this content will be available to you, ISS members, at no cost. It will be stored on the ISS website, so that you can watch it at your convenience and will feature world-renowned experts giving tumor boards panels, state of the art as well as basic lectures.

Join us this summer for a unique experience. You will not be disappointed.
